City characteristics represent the identity of a city, bearing its regional culture, maintaining its history, reflecting the characteristics of the times, in today＇s urban construction characterized by Same Features for Thousands of Cities, how to grasp the characteristics of a city and inherit and reflect it in the city development and construction, has become a great and arduous task for city planners and city construction administrators. This paper, being a case study of Lincang, starting from the study of its potential characteristic resources, through distinguishing criteria, identifies the important and characteristic resources of the city. Further, based on the principle of city characteristics construction, the paper puts forward the orientation of the city. Finally it advances the evolutionary path of city characteristics from the following three aspects： the characteristic city industry, characteristic city space and the spirit of city humanities.%城市特色代表城市的个性特征，它承载着地域的文化，延续着城市的历史，体现着时代的特征。在当今“千城一面”的城镇化建设中，如何把握一个城市的特色，并将其传承、体现到城市发展和建设的各个方面，已成为城市规划工作者和城市建设管理者当前面临的一项重大而艰巨的任务。以临沧市为例，从潜在特色资源认知出发，通过判别标准辨识其中的重要特色资源，然后根据城市特色的构建原则，提出了城市特色定位，并分别从城市特色产业、特色空间和人文精神三个方面提出了城市特色的演化途径。
