In view of the special phenomenon "overlaid city" in Xuzhou,a famous historical and cultural city with outstanding regional characteristics,the present Xuzhou City was called "City above City" and the overlaid city "City under City".Natural,social and human factors in the formation of City under City were studied,morphological features of the existing City under City and urban planning of the City above City were summarized.It was found that City above City of Xuzhou has been formed on the basis of renovated layouts of the old city,thus urban planning of the City above City should explore further cultures of the Eastern and Western Han Dynasties,and maintain characteristics of the city rationally to inherit precious historic and cultural resources of the local area,and then to propose the influence of City under City on present spatial layout of the city,road layout and spiritual and cultural aspects.The study was to provide new concepts for the design and planning of indigenous cultures.
