The paper introduces the connotation, development process, retrieval process, main technology and methods of cross lan- guage information retrieval （CLIR） , concretely elaborates the working principles, advantages and achievements of parallel corpus, analyzes its problems in CLIR application and countermeasures, compares the advantages and disadvantages among parallel corpus, machine transla- tion and dictionary translation method. It puts forward that the 3 methods should be combined so as to promote the develooment of CLIR.%介绍跨语言信息检索的内涵、发展历程、检索过程及主要技术方法，详细阐述平行语料库的工作原理、优势、取得的成果，分析其在跨库语言检索中应用存在的问题和对策，比较平行语料库、机器翻译和词典翻译方法的优缺点，提出应促使3者相结合，推动跨语言信息检索的发展。
