Ye Xianzu is a renowned dramatist of the late Ming Dynasty, who had written or compiled prolific works of traditional Chinese opera including six legends and 24 zaju ( Chinese traditional poetical dramas). Many of his works have stood the test of time and become classics with far - reaching significance in the arena of traditional Chi- nese opera of the Ming Dynasty either in terms of their operatic contents or in terms of their artistic attainments. This paper combs through his extant works and those missing in an effort to clarify Ye' s contributions to the devel- opment of traditional Chinese opera and recognize his role in the Chinese opera history.%叶宪祖是晚明著名戏曲家,他一生著述宏富,所撰传奇六种,杂剧二十四种。他的戏曲著述,无论其思想内容,还是其艺术成就,堪称明代剧坛上有深远影响的重要作品。叶宪祖在明代戏曲史乃至整个中国戏曲史上占有重要的地位。
