An infrastructure of multimedia server cluster in local network based on tertiary storage is presented. The multimedia server system, called TSMS, consists of multimedia sever, control server, rapid switching network and client group. Multimedia server is composed of media nodes which have local memories and local disks, as well as tape libraries. All media nodes present multimedia information to users concurrently. Many parallel algorithms can be easily applied to this multimedia server cluster to optimize system resources utilization. An advantage of TSMS is that it has a lower cost than other multimedia systems.
