As a valid method of reasoning, backtracking reasoning takes the existing case facts as its major premise and the relevant background knowledge as its minor premise Backtracking reasoning in the thought of single criminal case investiga-tion has the characteristics of converse reasoning process, non-strict reasoning requirements and probable reason-ing conclusion. Therefore, it can be divided into many practical styles according to the reality of single criminal case investigation. Based on probability of backtracking reasoning, we hold that some relevant reasoning principles shall be followed in order to enhance the reliability of its conclusion.
