The amateurism is the fundamental principle theme of NCAA.The in-depth analysis toward this theme is essential to understand the success of American intercollegiate athletic and meaningful for the development of Chinese university sports.Based on literature reviews,the results show that it is a concept initiated by Victorian England scholars from the views of ancient Greek philosophers on comprehensive development education,and facilitated to a central component of elite education.It was inherited by American higher education.The legislation on eligibility and academic progress etc.of student-athlete to resist the professionalization and to maintain the level playing field for intercollegiate athletics are the key approaches for the adherence and sustainability of NCAA amateurism.%业余主义是美国大学生体育联合会的根基.对这一根基的深入探析,有助于更好地把握美国大学体育的成功之道,为国内大学体育工作提供参考.借助文献资料法对此进行了追根溯源.结论表明,业余主义源自古希腊雅典城邦全面发展的教育观,经由维多利亚时期英国学者的诠释,进而成为精英教育的核心要求.这一要求为美国的高等教育所继承.为反对大学校际竞技运动的职业化,保证公平竞赛环境,通过针对学生运动员招生标准、学业要求等问题的立法,美国大学生体育联合会坚守业余主义并传承至今.
