The friendship between Lin Zexu and Deng Tingzhen is well-known and left an unforgettable legacy in our history. During the reign of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty, they fought shoulder to shoulder for the ban on opium-smoking and the opium trade in Guangdong province but failed, then they were exiled to Xinjiang. Because of their common experience, the literary association between Lin and Deng was valued in their Xinjiang period. These poems could help us to know more about their exiled life: their inner thoughts, their helplessness and their grief.
