In earlier stages of Chinese history the city development of North took the lead.The mass movement to the south during Tang Dynasty brought advanced construction technology.From late Tang Dynasty,some southern cities learned from the northern cities and improved the city construction,and furthermore developed the technology in the field,laying a foundation for them to go beyond the north.%中国古代社会前期,北方城市发展一直领先全国,城市空间规划布局、建筑物间距规划、建筑用材都很讲究。魏晋南北朝、唐代北方劳动人口大规模的南下,为南方带来了先进的城市建筑技术。唐代后期,江南一些城市学习北方,扩大了建筑物间距,建筑用材上大量用瓦,子城外加筑罗城,预防了火灾的发生。罗城的修筑一直延续到五代十国时期,大大提高了城市军事防御能力,江南城市进入了新的发展阶段。南方学习并发展了北方传来的工程技术,为其在经济上赶上并超越北方奠定了基础。
