In Archaic Chinese, when the demonstrative “zhi”(之)is not only used as the object of the main verb, but also anticipates the information expressed in the following clause, this kind of complex sentence can be regarded as the cataphoric hypotaxis.Although the demonstrative zhi in the cataphoric hypotaxis can potentially develop into a complementizer mainly introducing object comple-ments,the process of its grammaticalization has not finished completely because the cataphoric demonstrative zhi has not spread extensively to the dynamic propositional sentences or eventive sen-tences,which in turn has greatly prevented the process of its grammaticalization and retained its sali-ent properties as a demonstrative.%在上古汉语中,当指示词“之”既充当主句中动词的宾语,同时又预示后面的从句所要表达的信息时,这种句子便是预指性主从句,预指性主从句是上古汉语主从句的一种重要类型。
