Several fabrication processes of hollow glass microspheres are summarized and analyzed. The chemical and physical routes for hollow glass microspheres functionization are also reviewed. The research progresses of functionized core/shell composite microspheres with hollow glass microspheres as the cores are presented, and the possible fields for further study of hollow glass microsphere based composite materials are proposed.
