The Jungle and American Muckraking Movement

摘要

During the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century,a group of American journalists and writers called "muckrakers" launched a muckraking movement aiming at unveiling shady deals, social evils and injustices.Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle, one of the most prominent muckraking novels, exerted tremendous influence on American life of that period. It enormously aroused the conscience of the general public and drew people’s attention on the dark side of the society:the social evils and injustices, and gave impetus to the development of the Muckraking Movement and pushed it on.
