Measurement and analysis of fractal dimensions for round turbulent jets

         

摘要

<正> By combining the measurement of fractal dimension with the digital image processing technique, the fractal dimension measured with the so-called "box-counting" method is found to be rather small. A modified "box-counting" method is proposed and then used for the PLIF images of round turbulent jets. It has been shown that (i) the scaling regime of jets spans roughly between the integral and dissipation length scales; and (ii) the fractal dimension, which increases with the jet path, can characterize the properties of the regions of turbulent jet, with a sudden jump at X/d0≈6 (about the end of the jet core).
