Since the reform and opening up, China's education, including adult education, has experienced the process of the prosperity and development. Adult education is a necessary way to establish a system of lifelong education and learning society. For society, it can not only improve the quality of the working people of our country, train talents in various fields;but also pro-mote the development of social economy, improve people's living standards and accelerate the pace of China's entry into a well-off society, which is in favor of comprehensively building a harmo-nious society. For individuals, it can promote the individuals' comprehensive development and improve their personal quality. But there are still many problems existing in China's adult edu-cation, therefore, this paper made an in-depth analysis on the development status, challenge and prospect of adult education, hoping to help the development of education.%改革开放以来，我国成人教育事业走过了繁荣发展的历程。成人教育是建立终身教育体系和学习型社会的必要途径，对社会而言，它不仅可以提高当前我国劳动人民的素质，培养各个领域的人才，还可以促进我国社会经济的发展、提高人们的生活水平，加快我国进入小康社会的步伐，有利于全面构建和谐社会。对于个人而言，它可以促进人的全面发展，有利于提高个人素质。但是我国成人教育至今仍存在着许多问题，本文对成人教育的发展现状、挑战、展望进行了深入的分析，希望能对教育事业的发展起到一定的帮助。
