Wood as a solid natural polymer material could be liquefied into solution reactive molecules. The liquefaction of wood and its practical applications have been developed during the past decade. The liquefaction technology of wood is significant for taking full advantage of the reproducible materials. In the paper,the research background and the recent developments concerning wood liquefaction without chemical modification were reviewed.
