cqvip:Coherence has been a concerning point in linguistic study and research since Halliday & Hasan published Cohesion in English in1976.The topical structure analysis(TSA),designed by Lautamatti (1987),is an analysis of coherence derived by examining the internal topical structure of each paragraph as reflected by the repetition of key words and phrases.In this study,the author will choose two different passages to test the validity of the TSA.The result shows that TSA offers a productive approach to test the discourse development patterns.
