唐代岭南地域的都督府建制单位具有地方高层管理组织与行政区划的典型性。武德四年（621）,唐朝平定岭南地域,遂在南疆建置行政管理机构,分划管治区域。所谓＂岭南五府＂是对置于岭南大陆地区五个都督府与都护府的通称;而＂岭南五管＂则是对五个都督府及都护府管治区域的总称。与此同时,还有置于海南岛的崖州都督府。武德中,岭南地域相继出现11个都督府（初名总管府）,管87州。＂岭南五管＂格局形成于天授中（690—692）容州都督府组建后。先天至天宝十五年间（712—756）,岭南地域仍有六都督府,属州增至73个州。至唐后期,在＂岭南五府＂的基础上次第建立五个方镇,仍称＂岭南五管＂。%The organizational system units of provincial commanding administration in Ling Nan during the Tang Dynasty possessed a typical feature of local high-level administrative organization and administrative districts.Administrative organs were established and districts were divided for governing after peace and order were restored in Ling Nan in 621.The so-called ＂Ling Nan Wu Fu＂ was meant the five provincial commanding administrations（Du Du Fu） and frontier commands（Du Hu Fu）;while ＂Ling Nan Wu Guan＂ was meant their relevant administrative areas.Besides,it also included Yazhou provincial commanding administration（Ya Zhou Du Du Fu）.During the Wu De years,there appeared 11 provincial commanding administrations（Du Du Fu）（at first named Zong Guan Fu）,governing 87 prefectures.Ling Nan Wu Guan was formed after the establishment of Rong Zhou Du Du Fu in the Tian Shou years（690-692）.During the Xian Tian 1st year to the Tian Bao 15th year,there remained 6 Du Du Fu,with 73 prefectures.During the late Tang Dynasty,5 Fang Zhen were established on the basis of Ling Nan Wu Fu,and the name of Ling Nan Wu Guan was still used.
