越州向斜（盆地）是曲靖地区主要的褐煤富集区，区内煤层主要位于新近系茨营组中，该地层含大量孔隙水。大气降水、地表的南盘江水系的江水和基岩承压水都会对含煤地层补给地下水。在未来的开采中应提前做好预防和防止工作，避免矿坑充水带来的危害。%Yuezhou syncline (basin) is the major lignite-rich region in Qujing.
