The study examined the association between children’s education and parents’ depression in rural China. It used children’s education as the key predictor and investigate how children’s education and social support mediate the association between older adults’ education and depression. The sample derived from rural Anhui Province and the working sample included 2112 older adults, which altogether included 5805 observations across 6 waves of data from 2001 to 2015. The random effects model showed that older adult’s education was significantly related to their’ depressive symptoms. The association was mediated by children’s education and the intergenerational exchange between older parents and their children.
