摘要

The material - and often immaterial - organisation of human life has seldom been the object of architectural debate before modernity. And yet Logistics existed well before the explosion of industrialisation and globalisation made them the sine qua non of the world we know today; they were, and still largely are, designed and deployed by the military, by bureaucrats, eventually by entrepreneurs and their technicians, and sometimes even by religious authorities, but not by architects. In their apparent lack of architecture, logistical spaces have mainly been understood as neutral spaces that are shaped by necessity rather than choice. The two essays in this File aim to challenge this received notion by discussing ways in which 'functional' spaces can actually be the sites of cultural speculation and the bearers of political agendas.
