This session is being taught by Fred L. Cook, Georgia Institute of Technology; Haskell W. Beckham, Exponent; and Kerry M. King, Spoonflower Inc. Preparation of fabrics for subsequent dyeing and finishing is arguably the most important step in the wet processing of textiles. The emphasis of the presentation will be on the fundamentals of preparing cotton-containing fabrics, the most voluminous application, to remove chemical/solid impurities (both natural and man-applied), improving water absorbency, and imparting whiteness.
