The world is changing so fast we really don't know what a sustainable world is, unless we look back a few thousand years. But we are beyond the point where we can return to those organic, natural ways, at least before the population drops dramatically below its current level. So our sustainable world of the near future will need to rely on cradle to cradle concepts, based on renewable energy and renewable or recyclable raw materials. In the meantime, we must hope that we haven't passed a point of no return and that any changes happen smoothly. And we need to use less.
