AATCC has undertaken a new study to investigate the relationship between laboratory test methods that measure aspects of moisture management and the results of field trials. Apparel with moisture management properties entered the marketplace within the last 15 years with performance claims that included improved comfort via wicking of perspiration away from the body and fast dry times. These marketing claims were based on new fiber, finishing, and fabric construction innovations designed for an expanding apparel market category for outdoor, sporting, athletic, and military end use. Many of the claims were not verifiable by standard test methods and there was no clear definition for the term, "moisture management."
