Improved Cotton Yarn Properties by Sizing with Modified Starch/Nano-sized SiO_2 Blends

摘要

Starch modification was an effective way to improve the quality of cotton warp yarns sized with starchano-sized SiO_2 blends. Modification increased yarn strength, enhanced yarn resistance to abrasive wear, and decreased yarn hairiness. The effect depended not only on modification type, but also on modification extent. Mono-phosphorylated or acetylated starches were preferred for blending with nano- sized SiO_2 and suitable to be used for sizing cotton yarns. Increasing the modification extent of these two types of starch also enhanced the quality. Either Zhifeng Zhu holds a PhD in textile chemistry and is the director of the National Test Center for Warp Sizes in Wuxi, China. Zhu is an expert member of the Cotton Textile Association of China. He was chosen as a Wanjiang Scholar from the government of Anhui Province and has published more than 120 papers in China and abroad. His research interests are in textile warp sizes and polymeric materials.
