Investigation of the Most Effective Cotton Digestion Procedure

摘要

Three cotton digestion procedures were tested to determine major, minor, and trace elements by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. Homogenized samples were subjected to dry ashing, open-vessel digestion, and microwave digestion before analysis for the presence of 28 elements. Best recoveries of all elements, especially for Cd and Co analysis, occured after the microwave digestion procedure. Dry ashing was the best method for determining As, K, Mg, Mn and Na, while open-vessel digestion was best for Al, Be, Ca, and Sb analysis. Digestion method accuracies were estimated by analysis of a certified reference material. Very good agreement between certified and experimental values was found for the majority of elements investigated.
