摘要

Betaine was used in a reactive dye bath for cotton dyeing to lower the amount of inorganic salt. For this purpose, dyeing of cotton fabrics with reactive dyes using betaine and sodium sulfate was investigated. Factors affecting dyeability such as dye concentration, salt concentration, alkali concentration, fixation time, and dyeing temperature were also studied. Results showed that the color strength and fastness properties of dyed fabrics were improved and the hue of dyed fabrics was not changed by adding betaine to the dyebath. The overall results suggest that betaine has potential as an exhaust agent to reduce the amount of inorganic salt in reactive dyeing of cotton.
