By the time you read this, the vote will have been taken at The Textile Institute's Extraordinary General Meeting on May 14, and the matter will be decided. At stake? The proposed merger of The Textile Institute (Tl) with the Society of Chemical Industry (SCI). This proposal "is possibly the most important issue raised since [the] formation of the Institute nearly 100 years ago," says David Woolliscroft, secretary of Tl.rnThe SCI is composed of members from many chemical sectors as diverse as food, Pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and environmental science. Established in 1881, the UK-headquartered society has individual members in more than 70 countries and offices in the US, Canada, Australia, India, China, and Europe.
