During 2002,in the United States,fire departments responded to fires every 19 seconds and 3,380 people died in fires.There were also 18,425 serious injuries from those reported fires.An estimated US10.3 billion dollars of property damage occurred as a result of these fires during 2002.While these statistics may seem alarming,they actually represent significant and sustained decreases over the years.In the last 25 years,the home fire death toll alone has decreased 54%.
