Catalase enzymes of different origin (fungal or bacterial) are becoming an important method for the removal of residual hydrogen peroxide after textile bleaching. Catalase treatment leads to significant savings of water, wastewa-ter, energy, and time, as well as their ease of use and ecological benefits. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of fungal and bacterial catalases on dyeing yield and decomposition of the residual hydrogen peroxide. For this reason, seven different commercial catalases were used in trials to determine their effects on reactive dyeing by measuring K/S values, and on decomposition of the residual hydrogen peroxide during the process by permanganate titration. K/S values between 15-10 were observed and most of the enzymes decomposed the hydrogen peroxide after eight minutes. A linear relationship was observed between the residual hydrogen peroxide concentration and K/S values.
