摘要

Adler's (2006) defense of the arts in management education is the starting point for our consideration of debates about the nature of art and design and where they might lead business schools. We argue that the design challenge facing business schools is to create a more holistic view of management and management education, suited to our complex and difficult times, this "winter of our discontent," and that this can be achieved by greater engagement with the arts and humanities. We suggest that we should rethink management education in terms of "narrative imagination" (focusing upon the language we use) and "dramatic rehearsal" (focusing upon drama and music) to challenge existing orthodoxies and to remake the business school as a more empathic, creative institution.
