As we were going to press, Congress had just passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, a mammoth collection of provisions that will, fortunately, not have much impact for the coming tax season, as much of it is forward-focused. After this season, though, it promises to keep accountants and tax practitioners busy for months on end advising clients about changes in rates, brackets, what's deductible, what's not, and much more — too much, in fact, for us to offer more than some highlights here (see page 12).
