The story of the fastest-growing firm in 2015 is actually the story of two firms - two firms from neighboring states and similar backgrounds that came together to form something greater than the sum of their parts. BerganKDV joined our Top 100 Firms list at No. 83 after being formed at the beginning of 2015 by the combination of Iowa-based Bergan Paulsen and Minnesota's KDV. The backstories of the two firms echo each other, accordingto CEO Chris Honkomp: Both trace their roots to the 1940s in cities of similar size (Waterloo for BP, St. Cloud for KDV); both had pursued growth geographically within their state by expanding into larger markets; and near the beginning of this century, each embarked on a more aggressive strategy.
