Blockchain technology may be more important to the accounting profession and its clients than artificial intelligence, robotics, networks and sensors, drones and nanobots. In their recent book, The Blockchain Revolution, Don and Alex Tapscott refer to the blockchain as the transformation of the Internet of Information to the Internet of Value. If this sounds like it might apply to accountants and businesses, it does. The majority of accountants either have not heard about blockchain or don't understand how it can impact the accounting profession. This article is a primer on blockchain and the potential it has to greatly impact the profession and its clients. New mindsets, skill-sets and toolsets are required to transform a profession.
