Each year, our Top 100 firms list ranks the largest firms in the accounting profession, and then our Inside the Top 100 report takes you behind the scenes at some of the most successful members of that list. You'll often meet older firms in this report - those that have had a long while to build their strength - as well as very new firms in the first flush of large-scale success. What sets McGladrey apart, and makes it a fitting subject for our first profile this year, is that it's one of the oldest firms on our T100 list - and, in some ways, one of the newest. Founded in 1926 by Ira McGladrey in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the firm grew over almost a century to be one of the five largest in the country, with over $1.2 billion in net revenue in 2012.
