In recent years, the boundaries of the accounting profession expanded considerably. Most firms now offer multiple services to business and individual clients. However, five years ago it was hard to find a firm capable of handling traditional accounting, tax services, and financial planning (complete with equity/insurance products) under one roof. While these lines-of-business have blended from the client's perspective into a single full service operation, the necessary software tools used to support each of these services have not.rnIn a perfect world, a firm would simply use a single software application to manage their entire service offerings and associated documents. Perhaps some day, but for now integration is the only way to achieve efficiency across multiple lines-of-business applications. The challenge is that these business lines entail vastly differentrnrequirements, compliance regulations and domain expertise. It will take software providers years to deliver the Utopia of a fully integrated solution that is competitive across all lines-of-business. Until then, the industry must rely on separate applications to help run the business.
