摘要

Professionals in all areas of librarianship are acutely aware of the problems facing the academy in the digital era, including the serials crisis, the struggle to expand universities' impact to the wider community, and austerity funding. These lie at the heart of this work by Jessie Daniels and Polly Thistlethwaite, a professor and chief librarian, respectfully, at The Graduate Center at the City University of New York (CUNY). Recognizing the ills these neoliberal influences brought to the academy, the authors highlight their own efforts to grow the world of digital scholarship to meet the needs of society, to empower communities, and to remake the academy as a leader for social justice. Although their own example of scholarly practice may be inspiring, it does not provide a broader vision or road map for the wider scholarly community "to enliven the public good" in the digital era.
