摘要

This year's EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) User Group meeting was held in North America for the first time, on May 10-11, 2016, in Boston, Massachusetts. My colleague and I attended this meeting in hopes to gain more knowledge of other libraries who have implemented EDS, their thoughts and experiences, as well as to learn of future enhancements and customizations. The User Group meeting was held to share knowledge among librarians who use EDS or are considering implementing the discovery service at their campus. Over the 2-day conference, attendees chose from several sessions offering a variety of topics such as customization, content and collection management, and interoperability. The sessions and topics covered that I attended, however, focused on EBSCO's support of a new open source Library Service Platform and how EDS application programming interfaces (APIs) were utilized within these frameworks. The meeting itself and the sessions I attended were informational, and it was interesting to see how libraries were experimenting with open source ILSs and EDS. What was missing, I thought, was more information about EDS itself. Maybe the next user group meeting could include sessions such as advanced training, troubleshooting and strategies, user-led "how to" discussions on customizations, and EDS enhancements. Below are synopses of the sessions I attended.
