Students often begin a reference query with, "I tried Google, but..." or "I really am a good researcher..." It is not a personal or institutional slight for a student to think of a library as an Internet search with shelves. It is part of the culture within which the average undergraduate has grown up. They are used to the Internet swirling around them, waiting for them to pluck the needed information out with a "feeling lucky" search. By the time they make it to the library, this has been tried, unsuccessfully. The library is not Google with walls, it is the research refuge of last resort.
