In a time when libraries "are challenged to prove that our efforts are effective, useful and efficient," an industrial engineer has stepped forward to provide them with a system to both become more efficient and show their funders that they have done so. Lean library management takes Maslow's hierarchy of needs and translates it to a pyramid of community needs that libraries can meet. Rather than asking community members what they want their library to do, Huber instead asks them to "visualize the ideal community."
