Philippines-based port management company ICTSI last year won the 48-year lease to manage Batumi Container Terminal in Georgia, its first concession in the Black Sea region. Batumi International Container Terminal (BICT) encompasses container berths, a general cargo berth and a rail ferry terminal at the port.rnICTSI has taken over two container berths, a general cargo berth and the ferry bridge at BICT.rn"Batumi is a small town of barely 140,000 people and most of the traffic through our berths is for the Georgian hinterland, particularly for the capital Tbilisi, and onwards into Azerbaijan and Armenia," says Francis Carter, newly-appointed BICT general manager.rn"At the moment, we are importing full containers and exporting only empties. We have capacity to stack some 2,000teu at a time, and are not exporting any full containers nor handling any transhipment cargo at present."
