For the first time in history, the U.S. federal budget includes substantial funding for space solar power. A total of $178 million to be spent during the next two years has been approved by Congress and signed into law by the President. Space solar power has enormous implications for space settlement. It is one of the key ideas that the NSS has been promoting since the beginning of our organization more than four decades ago. This is a great victory for our cause (see the first issue of our original publication, L-5 News, December 1975, which is available on the NSS website at space.nss.org).
