摘要

Star polymers containing multiple arms connecting at the central core are of great interest due to their structure. ATRP allows the synthesis of star polymers via three possible strategies. Here, Matyjaszewski et al. synthesized star polymers with methacryloyl groups at the chain ends by esterification of the hydroxyl end-functional star polymers. First, a hydroxyl end-functional MI was prepared by ATRP using a functional initiator. The obtained HO-PBA-Br MI was chain-extended and cross-linked by the polymerization of DVB under ATRP conditions using the arm-first method, resulting in a hydroxyl end-functional star polymer, star-(PBA-OH). The hydroxyl group was further converted into methacryloyl chain-end functionality via reaction with methacryloyl chloride. The methacryloyl-containing star polymers could be cross-linked either intermolecularly or intramo-lecularly under heating or UV irra-dia-tion.
