摘要

Nature provides living organisms with complex molecular systems that work inside a cell like ordinary machines built for everyday needs. These machines utilize chemical energy to perform tasks such as transportation of materials, processing of genetic information, and communication with other cells. Such biomolecular machinery is indeed incontrovertible evidence of the feasibility and utility of nanotechnology, and constitutes a sound rationale for attempting the construction of artificial nanomachines.
