Three carpet styles, and fabric and leather seat covers from Lantal - a specialist in high-performance textiles for transportation applications based in Langenthal, Switzerland - made their debut at the Aircraft Interiors Expo (held in Hamburg, Germany on 9-11 April 2013). The aircraft industry's desire to save weight so as to reduce fuel consumption underpins the development of all three carpets: the first is a lightweight, durable wool/polyamide (PA) construction designed to feel comfortable underfoot; the second is wool carpet that weighs only 1200 g.m~(-2) and is fixed to the floor with hook-and-loop fabrics, making it easy to lay and remove; the third is a 100% PA carpet that is lightweight and rugged, making it suitable for aircraft on short-haul flights, where the frequency of passenger traffic is high.
