The author develops a simple mathematical approximation defining: the "time shift" of a "signal" pulse by the sidelobes of an "interference" pulse in an otherwise noisefree environment. This condition exists when nonuniform frequency-domain windowing cannot be used to suppress sidelobe interference. Simulation of, and actual measurements with, a stepped-frequency reflectometer corroborate the theory.
