Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) has begun leveraging technology originally developed under the PW8000 geared-tur-bofan program for its PW800 engine. The PW8000, which shared a common technology core with the PW6000, was being developed for the 25,000-35,000 lb thrust market (Aerospace Engineering, August 1999). Although the PW8000 never entered production, much technology in the areas of fuel burn and noise reduction resulted from the program.
