Since its announcement about the A380 in December 2000, Airbus has stepped up efforts to complete design and development of the aircraft. The aircraft, which features a 23-ft-wide cabin and 262-ft length, is designed to seat 555 passengers in three classes and fly them up to 8000 nmi. At press time, Airbus had received 67 firm orders plus options from eight customers. The first passenger version of the aircraft is slated for service in 2006, with a freighter version following in 2008.
