Firstly, I would like to wish our readership a very Happy New Year and record my particular gratitude for the energy and commitment of our members, staff and volunteers who continue to contribute so effectively to our growth and development. The year ahead will be an exciting time for the Society. Advances in technology are bringing rapid transformation to many areas of our sectors and we are increasingly answering calls for impartial advice on the implications.Equally, we need to harness the excitement that is being generated by the application of these new technologies to attract young people into our world. To judge by the success and vibrancy of own recruitment event, Careers in Aerospace & Aviation LIVE 2018, we are pushing at an open door. Further evidence arose from our 'Have a Go' stand at World Skills UK LIVE which took place over three days at the NEC, Birmingham. World Skills brings together competitions for early career professionals, including an aeronautical engineering section. Over 700 visited our stand, showing a keen interest in aerospace engineering, pilot careers and apprenticeships: our careers publication, Career Flightpath, proved particularly popular.
