The 'Global Show for General Aviation' has run for 27 years at Friedrichshafen in southern Germany. Friedrichshafen's aeronautical history extends right back to the beginnings with literal giants of Zeppelin and Dornier, and continues today with the presence of Airbus, MTU, ZF and still - Zeppelin. Lake Bodensee, the surrounding countryside and beautiful historic old towns, not to mention excellent Zeppelin and Dornier museums, have much to recommend a longer stay; this was my first visit to AERO.First impressions were of the sheer size of AERO: 12 large hangar-size halls full of GA aircraft and related exhibitions; one being reserved as private. The publicity claimed more than 700 international exhibitors and more than 300 aircraft, from hang glider-derived trikes to helicopters and business jets. A paradise for well-heeled GA flyers - and the many onlookers. On the second day the halls were becoming packed. AERO describes itself as the 'trade show of Innovation', 'If you want to see innovation go to AERO, if you want to see more old timers - go to Oshkosh.' was suggested to me - not entirely correct I am sure.
