Throughout 2016, design teams were hard at work on their entries. The rules invited any fixed-wing aircraft design that came within the new E-conditions which allow experimental aircraft of under 2,000kg to be designed, built and tested with the absolute minimum of paperwork. The entries had to follow the format of an actual E-conditions submission: 1.Concept sketch 2.Details of the aircraft 3.Flight test programme 4.Risk assessment and, in addition, a business case. Entries from commercial companies and higher educational institutions had to complete all parts.
